A 26-year-old man has been charged in connection with a fatal hit-and-run incident that occurred in Mississauga more than a year ago. The tragic event highlights ongoing concerns regarding pedestrian safety, traffic regulations, and the accountability of drivers in urban areas.
According to Peel Region police, the incident took place just after midnight on January 14, 2025. A woman in her 20s was in the process of crossing Bristol Road West at Loonlake Avenue when she had the right of way, signaled by a green light. As she made it halfway through the intersection, a black SUV approached at high speed and entered the intersection against a red light, striking her. Following the collision, the vehicle fled the scene, continuing its eastbound journey.
Footage from a security camera belonging to a nearby homeowner captured the incident, showing the woman legally crossing the street as the suspect vehicle approached rapidly. The visual evidence has been crucial for investigators working on this case.
Following the hit-and-run, the woman was transported to a trauma center in critical condition. Tragically, she succumbed to her injuries on February 20, 2025, making the incident a fatal one.
In the aftermath of the incident, on January 18, 2025, police located the offending vehicle in the White Clover Way and Apple Blossom Circle area of Mississauga. At that time, authorities noted that the vehicle had undergone repairs, indicating efforts to conceal its involvement in the hit-and-run. Despite locating the vehicle, the driver remained unidentified for an extended period.
It wasn’t until February 11, 2026, that police made a breakthrough in the case. They arrested Sundeep Sekhon, a 26-year-old resident of Mississauga. Sekhon has been officially charged with two serious offenses: failure to stop after an accident resulting in death, and dangerous operation causing death. These charges reflect the severity of the incident and represent a step toward accountability for the victim’s tragic fate.
The police continue to seek assistance from the public and are encouraging anyone with additional information about the crash or the events leading up to it to come forward. The hope is that any further eyewitness accounts or evidence could aid in expediting the judicial process.
This incident has reignited discussions around pedestrian safety and the importance of adhering to traffic signals, especially for drivers. The community remains in mourning for the victim, whose life was cut short because of another's reckless behavior.
