Toronto police have reported that a 30-year-old man is facing several serious charges, including sexual assault and indecent exposure, following two distinct incidents that occurred over the weekend in the city. According to the Toronto Police Service, investigations revealed that both incidents involved the same individual and took place in different locations across Toronto.
The first incident occurred on Saturday evening, around 8:10 p.m., near the intersection of Dundas Street East and De Grassi Street, which is situated east of Broadview Avenue. Investigators stated that a group of women was walking along the sidewalk when the suspect approached them. In a disturbing turn of events, the man grabbed one woman's arm and made verbal sexual advances toward her. This aggressive encounter escalated when the suspect proceeded to sexually assault the victim, who reportedly did not know him.
Following this incident, police received reports of a second assault that took place the next day, Sunday, at approximately 5:30 p.m. This time, the assault occurred in a commercial building located in the vicinity of Dundas Street West and Bloor Street West. According to the police statement, while the woman was inside the office space, the suspect followed her and confronted her from behind, leading to another sexual assault. As with the first incident, the victim in this case did not know the assailant.
In response to these shocking incidents, the Toronto Police Service promptly released a public statement on Monday, which included photographs of the suspect they were actively looking for. This action was part of their effort to obtain information from the public regarding his whereabouts and any additional details that might be relevant to the investigations.
Following diligent investigation and public alerts, police were able to identify the suspect as Samuel Opoku. On Tuesday, law enforcement officers arrested him and charged him with two counts of sexual assault along with one count of indecent exposure. Shortly after his arrest, it was confirmed that Samuel Opoku would appear at a Toronto bail centre courtroom the same day.
The police clarified that the allegations made against Opoku have yet to be proven in court, emphasizing the legal principle of presumed innocence until proven guilty. The community remains on high alert as the police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding these incidents and encourage individuals to come forward if they have additional information.
