Toronto police are currently engaged in an extensive search for a 14-year-old girl named Esther who has been missing since late Friday evening. The last sighting of Esther occurred around 11:30 p.m. at a community centre located in the Earl Bales Park area in North York. Since that time, there has been no communication or contact reported from her.
According to Duty Inspector Scott Bradbury, the police service has been actively scouring the area for nearly 48 hours following her disappearance. The search efforts have included various methods such as dispatching mounted officers, utilizing drones, and deploying marine units. In addition, local residents have also become involved in the search, demonstrating community support and concern for the missing teenager.
Earl Bales Park, where Esther was last seen, is known for its heavily wooded environment that covers a sprawling 127 acres. This park features multiple walking trails and the West Don River flowing through its expanse, making it a complex area for search operations.
Inspector Bradbury mentioned that the circumstances surrounding Esther’s presence in the park remain unclear. At the time she was last seen, she was wearing a green long-sleeve top and grey track pants that are loose around the ankle. Esther is described as being five-foot-two inches tall, with a medium build and brown hair, making her identifiable based on these characteristics.
During a press conference on Sunday, Bradbury made an appeal to the community and neighboring residents situated near Earl Bales Park. He urged them to review any video footage from surveillance cameras they might have, particularly focusing on sightings of a young girl who may be seeking food, money, assistance, or directions. This call to action emphasizes the importance of community involvement in locating Esther.
Concerns for Esther's safety have been expressed by police officials, highlighting the urgency of the situation. Inspector Bradbury reinforced the need for the public's assistance in keeping watch for her, stating, “I’m asking for the public to help us put eyes on her so we can make sure she’s safe and reunite her with her family.” The sentiment reflects a communal desire to ensure the well-being of a vulnerable individual in distress.
The concerted efforts by law enforcement and local community members underscore the urgency of locating Esther and ensuring her safe return. The ongoing search continues to be a collective endeavor aimed at bringing peace of mind to her family and friends during this troubling time.
