A woman has been arrested following an alleged hate-motivated assault that took place in downtown Toronto over the weekend. According to police reports, they were dispatched to the scene, situated at the intersection of Dundas and Sherbourne streets, after receiving reports of an assault incident on Sunday.

The police investigation revealed that the suspect approached the victim from behind and forcefully shoved her to the ground, resulting in the victim falling into the roadway. During this aggressive encounter, the suspect allegedly hurled anti-East Asian remarks at the victim, indicating a possible bias motivating the attack.

The victim of the assault suffered minor injuries due to the confrontation. Importantly, the suspect managed to flee the scene before law enforcement arrived to address the situation. However, police efforts led to the identification of the suspect, and she was later apprehended.

On Tuesday, Thalia Barber, a 29-year-old resident of Toronto, was officially charged with assault in connection with the incident. She is scheduled to appear in court on September 14, where further legal proceedings will take place regarding the charges brought against her.
