The newly sanctioned individuals comprise a senior official from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), the head of Iran's foreign policy and national security committee, a naval commander, and the chairperson of the Iranian energy exporters union. These officials have been identified as key figures in perpetuating the blockade that has had serious implications for international shipping and trade.
According to reports, as of August 6, approximately 1,500 vessels were stranded in the Persian Gulf due to the blockade.
