On a Tuesday night, Toronto police have identified a suspect in connection with the fatal stabbing of a 36-year-old man, Ashkan Pournasir-Roudbane. The incident took place in a plaza located in the Danforth and Coxwell avenues area shortly after 11 p.m.
According to investigators, an altercation ensued between two men behind the plaza, during which one of them was stabbed. Pournasir-Roudbane was subsequently transported to the hospital but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the medical facility.
In the wake of this violent incident, authorities are actively searching for the suspect, identified as 24-year-old Anthony Steven Oliveira, who has no fixed address. He is currently wanted on a charge of first-degree murder. As the investigation unfolds, police have not disclosed whether Pournasir-Roudbane and Oliveira were known to each other prior to the incident, leaving open the possibility of whether the attack was random or targeted.
Toronto police have issued a stern warning regarding Oliveira, categorizing him as “armed and dangerous.” In a statement released on Thursday night, they cautioned the public about his potential to utilize public transit throughout the Greater Toronto Area, including neighborhoods within Toronto, as well as Durham Region and Peel Region.
Furthermore, it has come to light that Oliveira is also wanted on other criminal charges, including assault and weapons-related offenses, linked to a series of stabbings that took place in Oshawa earlier in the month. This prior involvement in violent crime raises concerns about his potential behavior as he remains at large.
As the investigation continues, the Toronto police are urging anyone who may have information regarding Oliveira's whereabouts or any details pertaining to the stabbing of Ashkan Pournasir-Roudbane to come forward. The community is being asked to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity to assist in capturing the suspect before further violence can occur.
