Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown is currently under police protection following threats made against him and his family, as confirmed by Peel Regional Police on Tuesday. The announcement coincided with the police's campaign against an organized group alleged to be behind numerous violent home invasions in Peel Region.
Deputy Chief Nick Milinovich disclosed that the police have received and are investigating the threats which are not just directed at the mayor but also at his family. He emphasized that due to the seriousness of the situation, it was deemed necessary to provide additional police security to Brown until the investigation can confirm the nature and source of the threats.
While Milinovich refrained from disclosing specific details regarding who might be behind the threats or their potential motives, he did clarify that the threats originated within Canada. This ongoing investigation aims to address the threats efficiently and responsibly.
In light of the situation, Mayor Brown expressed confidence in the Peel police, noting that their presence allows him to feel secure about his and his family's safety. He acknowledged past experiences with death threats but reinforced that such occurrences would not deter him from his commitment to public safety and his responsibilities as a mayor.
Brown remarked, “I have great confidence in the Peel police; I feel safe because we have a great police force in Peel Region. This is not the first time I’ve received a death threat; I did so a number of years ago. I’m sure it won’t be the last, and it certainly won’t change my approach.”
He reiterated his dedication to addressing crime in the area, including his recent calls for the designation of India's Lawrence Bishnoi gang as a terrorist organization. Brown's proactive stance on public safety is intended to ensure the welfare and security of the residents of Brampton, despite the personal risks he faces as an elected official.
In summary, the threats against Mayor Patrick Brown highlight the challenges public figures may face regarding safety, especially in connection with broader crime issues in their jurisdictions. With police protection in place, both Brown and the Peel Regional Police continue to prioritize public safety while investigating the alarming threats received by the mayor and his family.
