A 32-year-old man named Ricardo Dawson from Toronto is facing serious legal trouble following a traffic stop conducted by Peel Regional Police in Brampton. The traffic stop occurred on August 15, near the intersection of Williams Parkway and Kennedy Road.
During the stop, officers discovered a loaded firearm that had its serial number altered, along with a quantity of suspected drugs. The discovery led to Dawson's immediate arrest at the scene.
Dawson is currently facing an array of charges that underscores the severity of the situation. These charges include:
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm;
- Knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm;
- Possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm;
- Occupant of a motor vehicle knowing there was a firearm;
- Possession of a firearm with an altered serial number;
- Possession of a firearm, etc., contrary to order;
- Possession of a controlled substance – Schedule III; and
- Possession for the purpose of distributing.
Police further revealed that Dawson is under a lifetime firearms prohibition due to a previous conviction related to illegal firearm possession. This prior conviction adds a layer of seriousness to his current legal predicament, particularly given the nature of the charges he's now facing.
After his arrest, Dawson was held in custody while awaiting a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Brampton. The police are actively continuing their investigation into the case, while the community remains concerned about the implications of such incidents involving weapons and drug-related activities.
