Biden Undergoes Surgery for Skin Cancer Lesions

WASHINGTON (AP) – Former President Joe Biden has recently undergone surgery to remove skin cancer lesions, marking yet another health issue for the 80-year-old political figure. This surgery, which was confirmed by spokesperson Kelly Scully, took place after Biden was seen leaving a church in Delaware with a visible scar on his forehead.

Biden underwent a procedure known as Mohs surgery, which is specifically designed to excise cancerous skin cells. This method ensures that all cancerous tissue is removed, providing a high rate of success in treating skin cancers.

This incident isn’t the first time Biden has faced skin cancer. Two years prior, while he was still in office, he had a lesion removed from his chest that was diagnosed as basal cell carcinoma, a frequent type of skin cancer that affects many individuals.

Moreover, in May 2025, Biden’s office revealed that he had been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer. This diagnosis was particularly concerning as the cancer had metastasized to his bones, indicating a more advanced stage of the disease. At that time, Biden expressed the emotional toll that cancer has taken on him and his family through a heartfelt message on social media, stating, “Cancer touches us all. Like so many of you, Jill and I have learned that we are strongest in the broken places.”

Throughout his family history, cancer has played a significant and tragic role. Biden's son, Beau, sadly passed away due to a brain tumor, and his wife, Jill, has also dealt with health challenges, having two cancerous lesions removed in the past.

A correction was issued regarding the timeline of Biden's prostate cancer diagnosis, clarifying that it was officially announced by his office in May 2025, not earlier as previously stated.

This series of health challenges, particularly those related to cancer, underscores the ongoing battles faced by public figures and their families. As Biden navigates these issues, he remains a prominent figure in American politics, continuing to engage with various audiences and maintaining his responsibilities as a leader.

Such medical procedures and health concerns can impact not only the individual's life but also their ability to serve in public office. The public often looks for transparency about health issues, especially for prominent leaders, as these factors can play a significant role in electoral considerations and public trust.

As Biden recuperates from his recent surgery, it will be vital for him to maintain open channels of communication regarding his health, balancing personal privacy with the public's right to know about the wellbeing of their leaders.
