A multi-vehicle crash that took place late Friday night on Highway 401 near Avenue Road resulted in the closure of both eastbound and westbound lanes. The incident, which occurred in the westbound lanes just after 11 p.m., involved a tanker trailer, but the exact number of vehicles involved remains unclear at this time. The Ontario Provincial Police have reported that assessments of injuries from the crash are ongoing.
Pictures from the crash site illustrate the severity of the incident, with the tanker truck overturned in the westbound express lanes. The cab of the truck was seen flipped onto its side, and the tanker’s liquid cargo was spread across the highway. In addition to the damage to the tanker, significant destruction was evident to the concrete barrier separating the express lanes, with large chunks of concrete debris littering the eastbound section of the highway.

Emergency paramedics arrived on the scene to provide medical assistance. Reports confirmed that a man, suffering from serious but non-life-threatening injuries, was transported to a trauma center. Paramedics are continuing to evaluate other potential injuries among the involved parties at the scene.
In the aftermath of the crash, traffic management measures were quickly implemented. Shortly after midnight, authorities managed to open one lane of the eastbound highway, allowing some traffic to flow through the area while cleanup and investigations were ongoing.
The incident has caused significant disruption, with both lanes of the highway affected during the late-night hours. As crews work diligently to clear the wreckage and assess the full extent of damages, drivers are being advised to avoid the area and seek alternate routes where possible.
