A small plane crashed in a field at Monarch Park High School in Toronto on the evening of September 14, 2025. According to Toronto Fire services, emergency responders were dispatched to the site near Felstead and Greenwood Avenues shortly after 8 p.m. The incident occurred close to the soccer field and the parking lot adjacent to the grandstand.
The aircraft had three occupants on board, all reportedly in their mid-30s to 40s. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported, and all individuals managed to exit the plane safely. Toronto Fire has addressed the issue of leaking fuel and has confirmed that the situation is under control, posing no threat to public safety.
The cause of the crash remains unclear at this time. Transport Canada is set to take over the investigation to determine the factors that led to the incident. Fire Chief Jim Jessop noted that civilians were actively playing soccer on the field when the plane went down, which adds a layer of concern considering the public's proximity to the crash site.
One witness, Tavid Sydney-Cariglia, was playing soccer at the nearby St. Patrick’s Field when he observed the plane flying unusually low above them. He recounted, “It was coming from the west side of the city to the east. And it was really low. And then all of a sudden we heard a big loud crash.” Following the sound, the witness and others rushed to the scene, where they saw the crashed plane and its occupants safely outside.
This incident has raised significant questions regarding air traffic safety and regulation in urban areas, especially considering the risks posed to civilians during recreational activities.
