OTTAWA – Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre spoke to young Canadians during an event in Toronto, asserting that the current Liberal government, led by Prime Minister Mark Carney, is endangering their future. Poilievre's remarks came amid rising concerns regarding economic policies and the impending federal budget.
At the podium, adorned with the slogan “Jobs. Homes. Hope.,” Poilievre criticized Carney for failing to negotiate an end to tariffs with U.S. President Donald Trump. He pointed to the negative implications of these tariffs for the Canadian economy and the youth who are particularly affected by the escalating costs of living.
During his speech, Poilievre took issue with Carney’s recent statements made at the University of Ottawa, where the Prime Minister characterized the upcoming fall budget as one that would promote “unprecedented” levels of private sector investment. While Carney acknowledged that the economy is currently stable despite tariff-related pressures, he warned of potential upcoming sacrifices if proactive measures are not taken. He emphasized that his plans are aimed at generating “generational investments” for the future.
In response, Poilievre argued that the youth of today have already made significant sacrifices compared to previous generations due to what he described as “Liberal policies.” He vowed that the Conservative Party aims to address critical issues such as unemployment and the soaring cost of housing, which disproportionately affect younger Canadians.
Stressing his longstanding policies, Poilievre reiterated proposals such as repealing anti-development regulations, eliminating the industrial carbon tax, reducing taxes, and capping government spending. He asserted that these measures would pave the way for a more favorable environment for young Canadians, offering them the opportunity for better financial futures.
“Mr. Carney, the young people in this room and across this country have already sacrificed enough,” Poilievre declared. He highlighted the hard work of young Canadians and their right to aspire for a future filled with “homes, jobs, and hope.”
With the federal budget set to be announced next week, the Conservative Party has begun circulating fundraising emails warning supporters about the possibility of an early election and underscoring the necessity for the party to be adequately prepared.
The event saw participation from several Conservative MPs, including Eric Melillo, Jonathan Rowe, and Melissa Lantsman, who joined Poilievre on stage. Many young attendees stood behind him brandishing signs emblazoned with messages like “Don’t sacrifice my future,” reinforcing the urgency of the issues being discussed.
“Canada’s youth are the best and the brightest in the world, and they deserve a future to match that,” Poilievre asserted, underscoring his commitment to advocating for the younger generation’s interests during a pivotal economic and political period.
