Following the ceremony, Beckham expressed deep gratitude, stating, "I’ve been very obviously lucky in my career to have won what I’ve won and done what I’ve done, but to receive an honor like this, of a knight, is beyond anything that I ever thought that I would receive." This accolade symbolizes the apex of Beckham's efforts to improve his public image after facing challenges that once distance him from fans over his illustrious career.
The 50-year-old Beckham was honored for his contributions to both sport and charity. He has notably collaborated with UNICEF, the United Nations' children’s fund, for more than 20 years, and has campaigned with a charity aimed at eradicating malaria. Additionally, Beckham played a crucial role in securing the 2012 Summer Olympic Games for London.
