In a thrilling West Division final held on Saturday, Tommy Nield's three-yard touchdown reception with just 11 seconds remaining propelled the Saskatchewan Roughriders to a dramatic 24-21 victory over the B.C. Lions. This victory secures the Roughriders a spot in the Grey Cup, where they will face the Montreal Alouettes in Winnipeg on November 16.

The game took a suspenseful turn as Saskatchewan trailed 21-17 with only 1:03 left on the clock. The Roughriders orchestrated an impressive drive, covering 74 yards in seven plays to clinch the game-winning touchdown. The Alouettes earned their place in the championship game earlier the same day with a narrow 19-16 win over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the East Division final.

The Roughriders initially held the advantage, leading 14-7 in the third quarter before the Lions countered with two touchdowns, flipping the score to 21-14 in favor of B.C. With three minutes remaining in the game, Saskatchewan found themselves with a first-and-goal situation at the B.C. five-yard line. However, after failing to complete two passes, head coach Corey Mace opted for a field goal instead of risking a third-down attempt. Brett Lauther successfully executed a 13-yard field goal, bringing the Roughriders within three points at 21-17 with 2:42 left on the clock.

Following the field goal, the Saskatchewan defense stepped up, forcing the Lions into back-to-back two-and-out possessions, which provided the Roughriders' offense with a final opportunity to claim victory.

Throughout the first half of the contest, both defenses dominated the field. The game was played in front of a sellout crowd of 33,350 at Mosaic Stadium, with the two teams combining for an astounding 11 punts—six from Saskatchewan and five from B.C. The only touchdown in the half came from the Lions, who executed a nine-play, 103-yard drive late in the second quarter. Quarterback Nathan Rourke was flawless during this drive, completing all five of his passes, capping it off with a four-yard touchdown run that gave B.C. a 7-1 lead with 4:09 left in the half. In response, Saskatchewan narrowed the gap to 7-4 as Lauther connected on a 22-yard field goal just before halftime.

With this victory, the Saskatchewan Roughriders are set to return to the Grey Cup for the first time since 2013, when they triumphed over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats with a score of 45-35.
