If you’re traveling in southern Ontario on Boxing Day, meteorologists are warning that snowfall and/or ice may impact your commute throughout the day. A yellow snowfall warning has been issued by Environment and Climate Change Canada, affecting several areas, including Toronto, Durham Region, Belleville, York Region, Barrie, Collingwood, and Owen Sound.

The snowfall is expected to start late Friday morning, with forecasts predicting eight to twelve centimeters of snow by the evening. The weather warning cautions that there is still uncertainty regarding the track of the low-pressure system, which may influence the eastern edge of the significant snowfall area.

During Friday afternoon, snow may become locally heavy at times, leading to reduced visibility and potentially difficult travel conditions due to the accumulation of snow. Motorists are advised to exercise caution and adjust their travel plans accordingly, as travel is likely to be challenging.

A special weather statement has also been issued for regions such as Peel, Halton, Hamilton, Kitchener-Waterloo, and Niagara, indicating that five to ten centimeters of snow may be accompanied by ice pellets. This combination of snow and ice could create hazardous conditions on the roads.

In terms of temperatures, meteorologists predict an overnight low of -11°C in Toronto on Thursday night. The high temperature during the day on Friday is expected to be -4°C, followed by a slightly warmer high of -2°C on Saturday.

Given the forecasts and the warnings issued, travelers in southern Ontario should remain vigilant and take the necessary precautions during their journeys on Boxing Day. Keeping updated on changing weather conditions is essential to ensure safety on the roads.
