MONTREAL - The family of a Quebec couple found dead in the Dominican Republic on Boxing Day is seeking answers about the circumstances surrounding their tragic deaths.
Patricia Sauvé, a relative, revealed that her aunt, Christine Sauvé, aged 55, and her uncle, Alain Noël, aged 56, were discovered deceased by their son in the bedroom of their residence in the Caribbean nation. The son became concerned when he noticed that his parents had not awoken in the morning.
According to Patricia Sauvé, the couple had experienced health issues leading up to their deaths. She noted that Christine had felt dizzy in the days prior and had visited a hospital on Christmas Day after fainting, but she was released with a follow-up appointment scheduled for testing. Additionally, Alain had reported feeling unwell, yet both seemed healthy enough to FaceTime their family on Christmas Day.
"It's unimaginable, two people who die at the same time," Patricia Sauvé expressed, emphasizing the family's shock and confusion. She highlighted the lack of any evident signs of serious health problems during their communication with family, which makes the situation even more bewildering. The family is grieving the loss of a couple who were known to be vibrant and loving, with deep roots in both their community in Gatineau, Quebec, and in the Dominican Republic.
The couple had been married for over 30 years and were looking forward to eventually retiring in the Dominican Republic. "They were a really dynamic couple who were very involved in the community," Patricia added, recalling their cheerful demeanor despite the grim circumstances.
As of now, local authorities have not disclosed a cause of death, but they have assured the family that they do not suspect foul play or suicide. An autopsy has been carried out, although it may take several weeks before a report detailing the cause of death is made available to the family.
Global Affairs Canada has acknowledged the situation, stating they are "aware of two Canadian citizens who died in the Dominican Republic." The federal department has extended its condolences to the grieving family and is providing consular assistance while liaising with local authorities for more information.
This event, marked by a profound sense of loss and unanswered questions, has understandably left the family in mourning, struggling to cope with the unexpected deaths of two individuals they described as healthy and joyous. The investigation continues as they await further details regarding the cause of the couple's deaths.
