LOS ANGELES (AP) – Actor Kiefer Sutherland was arrested in the early hours of Monday after Los Angeles police were called to investigate an alleged assault involving a ride-hail driver. The incident took place just after midnight near the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue, situated south of Hollywood Hills.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), the 59-year-old Sutherland was reported to have entered a ride-hail vehicle, where he physically assaulted the driver and reportedly made criminal threats against the victim. Fortunately, the driver did not incur any injuries that required medical attention, as stated by the police.
Sutherland was taken into custody on suspicion of making criminal threats. Following his arrest, he was released from jail a few hours later on a bond set at $50,000, per jail records. His first court appearance is scheduled for February 2, based on the same records.
An inquiry directed to Sutherland’s representatives for a comment on the incident went unanswered at the time of reporting.
Recognized for his work in film and television, Sutherland is notably known for his iconic portrayal of federal agent Jack Bauer in the Fox network's acclaimed thriller series "24," which has spawned various spin-offs. In addition to his television accolades, he has appeared in several films, including the cult classic "The Lost Boys," the Western "Young Guns," and two notable films directed by Rob Reiner: "Stand by Me" and "A Few Good Men."
