On Monday night, a tragic house explosion in Mississauga resulted in the death of one individual, as confirmed by Peel police. Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene near the intersection of Mavis and Bristol roads shortly after 10:30 p.m., where they discovered the residence engulfed in flames.

According to Peel police reports to 680 NewsRadio, the explosion caused extensive damage to the home. As of now, law enforcement is working diligently to identify the person who lost their life in the incident. Constable Tyler Bell-Morena stated that they have accounted for all individuals associated with the residence, leading them to question the identity of the deceased. "We had no reason to believe that anyone should have been in the home that’s associated with the residents at the time," said Bell-Morena. "We were able to make contact with everybody in the residence or verify the well-being of those people, corroborating the fact that there should be nobody inside. When investigators ventured into the threshold that was safe, they made the discovery." This indicates that the deceased person was not expected to be inside the home.

Initially, police reported that no injuries had been documented. The Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office has since begun an investigation into the explosion and plans to continue their work on Wednesday. They are currently awaiting heavy machinery to clear the debris to facilitate a more thorough examination of the site. "The structure right now is unstable, and that’s why no one has conducted a more thorough search," Bell-Morena explained, highlighting the hazardous conditions at the scene.

As of yet, the cause and origin of the explosion remain undetermined. Following the autopsy by the coroner’s office, further insights into the deceased's cause of death will be released. Bell-Morena added, "If any of those investigations determine any type of criminality, Peel Regional Police will be conducting the follow-up on that and looking who is responsible."
