Two mental health counsellors have been arrested following an investigation into alleged excessive force used on a child at a school located in Ontario's Niagara Region. The incident in question occurred at the Mountainview Centre for Innovative Learning in Welland.
According to the police, the investigation began last month after they received reports of an alleged assault involving the mental health counsellors. The Mountainview Centre is equipped with a teacher and a mental health counsellor in each classroom, aiming to provide specialized programs tailored for children facing various mental health and learning challenges.
Authorities have stated that the mental health counsellors involved were accused of employing restraint techniques that exceeded the boundaries of their training. Following a thorough investigation, police concluded that their actions constituted excessive use of force, ultimately leading to charges of assault.
The arrested individuals are identified as Madison Porkolab, aged 22, hailing from Grimsby, Ontario, and Natasha Bennett, a 26-year-old resident of Welland. Each has been charged with one count of assault in relation to the incident.
In light of the situation, law enforcement officials suspect that there may be additional victims and are urging anyone with information to come forward. This plea aims to ensure that any further incidents are investigated, and justice is served as needed.
