Six individuals are facing over 50 charges in connection with a comprehensive drug trafficking and firearm investigation dubbed "Project Madruga," which unfolded over several months across multiple jurisdictions in central Ontario. The operation was initiated in February 2025, following a report to York Regional Police (YRP) regarding an alleged drug trafficking operation in Georgina, Ontario.

As the investigation progressed, YRP identified several associates involved in drug trafficking activities extending from Toronto to Huntsville. The YRP later discovered that these individuals were also under investigation by provincial police in Orillia. This led to a collaborative effort between the two police forces to intensify their investigation.

On April 16 and May 8, 2025, a total of six search warrants were executed in York Region and Toronto. Authorities seized 15 firearms, including seven handguns, four shotguns, and four rifles. Additionally, the police recovered a large quantity of drugs valued at approximately $215,000. The seized drugs included fentanyl, cocaine, methamphetamine, various opioids, and cannabis.

Among those arrested is 34-year-old Gary Laird from Toronto, who faces a total of 13 charges. These include two counts of possession of fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking, possession of cocaine and methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking, and multiple firearms-related offenses such as unauthorized possession of firearms, tampering with serial numbers, and possession of proceeds of crime over $5,000.

Another suspect, 24-year-old Rene Goomansingh, also from Toronto, has been charged with 10 offenses including possession for the purpose of trafficking various drugs, and similar firearms charges to those faced by Laird.

Additionally, 28-year-old Justice Comeau from Newmarket was arrested and faces seven charges, which involve possession for the purpose of trafficking fentanyl, cocaine, schedule 1 drugs, and methamphetamine, along with obstructing a police officer.

Similarly, 32-year-old Dariel Hidalgo Guzman, also from Newmarket, is facing eight charges, mirroring Comeau's drug-related offenses and including obstructing a police officer as well.

24-year-old Ayden Beauchamp of Toronto has been charged with two offenses: possession for the purpose of trafficking fentanyl and possession for the purpose of distribution of cannabis.

Lastly, 39-year-old Ali Victor, from Aurora, faces 10 charges, including possession for the purpose of trafficking several drugs, unauthorized possession of firearms, and additional firearm-related offenses that indicate unlawful handling of weapons.

As a result of this extensive investigation, police have laid a total of 53 charges against the six suspects involved, highlighting the collaborative effort between multiple law enforcement agencies in tackling drug trafficking and firearm-related crimes within the region.
