PHILADELPHIA (AP) – Authorities are currently investigating a break-in that occurred over the weekend at the residence of Saquon Barkley, the Philadelphia Eagles running back. The incident took place in Tredyffrin Township, Pennsylvania, which is located approximately 20 miles (32 kilometers) northwest of Philadelphia. Police were alerted to a burglary in progress early Saturday morning.
Upon arrival, law enforcement officials found that the suspects had already fled the scene. It was reported that the home was occupied at the time of the incident, but thankfully, no one was injured. In their official statement, police reassured the public that "Mr. Barkley and his family were not harmed during this incident." They have released a photograph of a white SUV, indicating that it may be connected to the break-in.
Authorities noted that they had not received additional reports of break-ins in the vicinity, leading them to consider the possibility that Barkley’s home was specifically targeted. The Chester County District Attorney’s office is assisting local authorities in their investigation. They have called on the public to aid the inquiry by reviewing any home security footage that may show suspicious activity around the time of the burglary on Saturday morning.
As of Monday, there had been no immediate responses to inquiries made via email and phone by police, the district attorney’s office, or representatives for Barkley and the Eagles. This absence of communication leaves many details surrounding the incident unclear.
Earlier this year, in May, police in Argentina apprehended two Chilean nationals who were alleged to be members of a transnational gang involved in a series of burglaries targeting the homes of high-profile athletes, including NFL and NBA stars. These individuals were reportedly part of a coordinated crime ring that executed burglaries in both the United States and Argentina, focusing on well-known figures such as Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, and former tennis player Juan Martín del Potro. Other prominent targets included NBA players Luka Doncic and Mike Conley Jr.
In light of these burglaries, the NFL had issued a security alert to its teams and the players' union in 2024, following the break-ins that had affected the homes of Mahomes and Kelce. This highlighted a growing concern regarding the safety of athletes and their residences.
Despite these unsettling events, Saquon Barkley demonstrated resilience during the recent football season. After a record-setting performance in 2024, where he rushed for a total of 2,504 yards across regular season and playoff games, he maintained his strong performance despite the Philadelphia Eagles' offense showing less potency than in previous seasons. Barkley finished the season with 1,140 rushing yards and nine total touchdowns, affirming his status as a key player in the NFL.
