A tragic incident occurred in Mississauga on Tuesday evening, where a pedestrian lost their life following a hit-and-run. The incident took place at the intersection of Winston Churchill Boulevard and Dundas Street West, prompting emergency crews to respond shortly after 6 p.m. When they arrived, they found the pedestrian had already been pronounced dead at the scene.
According to Peel police, the vehicle involved in the incident was described as a “dark pickup truck,” and the driver did not remain on the scene after the collision. Constable Moulika Sharma addressed reporters later that evening, urging the driver to seek legal counsel and surrender to the police. “It's just a matter of time until we get them,” she stated, underscoring the urgency and seriousness of the situation.
Initial investigations revealed that the pedestrian was traveling northbound on Winston Churchill Boulevard and had just transitioned onto the west side of the crosswalk when they were struck. The vehicle, which fled the scene, was reportedly traveling southbound on Winston Churchill Boulevard before making a westbound turn onto Dundas Street West.
As the investigation continues, police have not yet identified the victim or publicly released details regarding the circumstances that led to the tragic incident. Investigators are currently reviewing CCTV footage and reaching out to witnesses to gather further information.
In the wake of the incident, authorities have closed all eastbound and westbound lanes on Dundas Street between Hampshire Gate and Woodchester Drive to facilitate the ongoing investigation. These closures are expected to remain in place until officials have collected all necessary evidence and statements.
