The Toronto Police Service is currently seeking the public's assistance in locating a man believed to be involved in two deliberately set fires in the Christie Pitts neighborhood. The incidents occurred on June 5, starting early in the morning.
According to investigators, fire crews were first called to a vehicle ablaze in the vicinity of Shaw Street and Yarmouth Road around 4 a.m. Upon arrival, police reported sighting a man in the area who appeared to be loitering prior to the fire. This individual fled the scene before authorities could apprehend him. Fortunately, there were no occupants in the vehicle at the time, and no injuries were sustained in the incident.
Approximately two hours later, firefighters were dispatched again to tackle a fire that had erupted in a detached garage within the same neighborhood. By the time emergency crews arrived, both the garage and the vehicle were engulfed in flames. Witnesses reported seeing a man on the rooftop of the garage just before the fire ignited, after which he fled the area. Similar to the earlier incident, no one was inside the garage or the vehicle when the blaze occurred, and once again, no injuries were reported.
In the course of their investigation, police have released a surveillance image of the suspect, whom they describe as being in his 30s and standing between five feet six inches and five feet eight inches tall. The man has a slim to medium build and light brown hair tied back in a ponytail. At the time of the alleged incidents, he was reported to be wearing a blue sweatshirt, blue sweatpants, and grey shoes.
Authorities urge anyone with information regarding this suspect or the incidents to come forward and assist the investigation. The police emphasize the importance of community vigilance in preventing such acts of arson and ensuring the safety of residents in the area. They are continuing to explore all leads to apprehend the individual responsible for these dangerous fires that not only threaten property but could also endanger lives.
