Two individuals have been apprehended, while a third remains at large in connection with an ongoing investigation involving robbery and extortion in Toronto. The incident has raised significant concern among local authorities and the community.
The Toronto police received a call regarding an alleged assault that took place in the vicinity of Adelaide and Peter streets at approximately 4:30 p.m. on June 11. According to reports, the victim had contacted a woman who was reportedly using several different names, including “Nina,” “Nina Lopez,” and “Sabrina,” on the social media platform Snapchat.
Upon meeting the woman at her residence, the victim was allegedly assaulted by two men who also robbed and extorted her of a significant amount of cash. Following the incident, the victim managed to escape the scene and contact the police for assistance, prompting an immediate investigation into the matter.
On Monday, law enforcement officials arrested Julia Valiante, 30, from Montreal, and Saleem Abdulla, 20, from Mississauga. Both have been charged with multiple offenses, including assault with a weapon, robbery involving violence, robbery with an offensive weapon, extortion, and the publication or possession of obscene materials for distribution. Following their arrest, the pair were scheduled to appear in court the next day.
While the investigation continues, authorities are actively searching for a second suspect who remains at large. The wanted male is described as being in his early 20s, with black hair, a black goatee, and a thin build. At the time of the alleged incident, he was reportedly wearing a black Nike hooded sweater with a zipper, black pants, and black shoes, making him identifiable to those who may have witnessed the event.
Investigators believe that there may be additional victims related to this case and are urging anyone with information or similar experiences to come forward. The nature of the alleged crimes has prompted concerns over safety and the exploitation of individuals through social media platforms.
The Toronto police continue to encourage citizens to remain vigilant and to take necessary precautions when interacting with individuals they meet online. As this investigation unfolds, police are dedicated to pursuing all leads and ensuring that justice is served for the victims involved.
