As the Toronto Blue Jays return home to potentially clinch their World Series match against the Los Angeles Dodgers, both the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) and Metrolinx are gearing up to accommodate the influx of excited fans. With the Jays taking a thrilling 3-2 lead in the best-of-seven series on Wednesday, there is a chance they could eliminate the Ohtani-led Dodgers in Game 6 on Friday night.
In response to the anticipated crowds, the TTC has announced increased subway services for Game 6, and a potential Game 7 on Saturday. On Line 1 Yonge-University, there will be ten additional trains running, complemented by six extra trains on Line 2 Bloor-Danforth. This effort is part of the TTC's commitment to ensure that fans can easily access the Rogers Centre and various sports bars and viewing parties across the city.
Moreover, downtown streetcar routes may also see increased service wherever feasible. The TTC has confirmed that extra staff will be stationed at Union Station and other key hubs in the downtown area to assist customers. The transit commission is actively monitoring the Series-deciding games and is prepared to adjust bus and streetcar routes in the downtown core. This could involve diversions or short turns to maintain service amidst heavy crowds. Updates will be provided in real-time via the TTC's website and their official account on social media platform X.
Additional measures are also being implemented by Metrolinx, which is adding extra GO train trips to ensure fans have safe transit options available. A summary of the changes for Game 6 and a potential Game 7 includes:
- Kitchener Line: A NEW trip will depart Union Station at 12:35 a.m., making all station stops and arriving at Kitchener GO at 2:27 a.m.
- Barrie Line: A NEW trip will depart Union Station at 12:30 a.m., making all station stops and arriving at Allandale Waterfront GO at 2:13 a.m.
- Stouffville Line: A NEW trip will depart Union Station at 12:30 a.m., making all station stops and arriving at Old Elm GO at 1:42 a.m.
In related civic news, the City of Toronto has decided to cancel a planned closure of the Gardiner Expressway to accommodate the expected increase in traffic during the Series. The closure, initially scheduled for this weekend to complete final paving of eastbound lanes from Spadina Avenue to Highway 427, has been postponed. In the meantime, all six lanes from Dufferin to Strachan will remain open to facilitate safe travel in and around the downtown core as the City supports the Toronto Blue Jays during this crucial series.
