York Regional Police are actively seeking a man following an incident where someone was assaulted with a sharp object in a parking lot of a Vaughan plaza on Tuesday evening. The police have characterized the assault as "unprovoked," indicating that there was no prior interaction or conflict between the individuals involved.
The incident occurred shortly after 6 p.m. in the vicinity of Mable Smith Way and Interchange Way, located southwest of Jane Street and Highway 7. According to police reports, two individuals were walking together in the parking lot when they were approached from behind by an unknown man. This individual allegedly grabbed one of the two pedestrians and inflicted injuries using a sharp object.
Following the assault, the victim was promptly transported to a hospital for medical attention, where they received treatment for what were described as minor injuries. Fortunately, the injuries did not appear to be life-threatening, but the experience has understandably left the victims shaken and concerned for their safety.
Authorities are now searching for the suspect, who is described as being in his late 30s or early 40s. According to the police's detailed description, the man stands between five-foot-10 and six feet tall and has brown or black facial hair. He is characterized as having a medium to heavy build, which may assist in identifying him during the investigation.
At the time of the incident, the suspect was last seen dressed in a dark-colored toque, a blue-and-green plaid jacket, and dark pants.
