TORONTO – The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has expanded its ongoing recall of pistachios potentially contaminated with salmonella, now including several products from Peace by Chocolate and NuttyHero. This information was made public in a recall notice released on Friday, which highlights concerns over consumer safety regarding certain chocolate and nut products sold throughout Canada.
The latest recalled items include various Peace by Chocolate bars and assorted chocolate products. These items may have been available for individual sale or packaged within variety sets. Specific products affected by this recall include Dubai Style Chocolate Pistachio, Kunafa Bar, The Peace Maker Specialty Bars, the Trans Canada Trail – Peace Seeker, Classic Box, Proudly Canadian box, along with assorted filled chocolates. Notably, some of the Peace by Chocolate products were reportedly custom labelled for various corporations, such as TD, Dexterra – First Onsite Property Restoration, and Tri-County Regional Centre for Education.
Moreover, the CFIA has incorporated NuttyHero's nut and seed butters into this recall, which include flavors such as maple cinnamon, coconut crunch, and chocolate bliss. This development is part of a broader response to widespread concerns, as hundreds of pistachios and pistachio-containing products have been recalled in Canada over the past few months due to similar contamination issues.
Consumers who suspect they have purchased any of the recalled products are advised to dispose of them immediately. Furthermore, individuals experiencing symptoms such as fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea should seek medical attention. It is crucial to note that food contaminated with salmonella may not exhibit any visible signs of spoilage, yet it can still pose serious health risks.
Particularly vulnerable groups, including young children, pregnant women, seniors, and individuals with compromised immune systems, are at an elevated risk for serious illnesses associated with salmonella infection.
The complete and detailed list of the recalled products can be accessed by searching for "pistachio" on the CFIA's recall website at https://recalls-rappels.canada.ca/en. This preventive measure aims to ensure public safety amidst an extensive investigation into the contamination of pistachio-related goods.
This announcement marks another significant action by health officials to manage food safety in Canada, reflecting an ongoing effort to protect consumers from potential health hazards linked to contaminated food products.
