Immanuel Quickley showcased an impressive performance with 27 points and 11 assists, leading the Toronto Raptors to a 134-125 victory against the Washington Wizards on Saturday night. This win marked a vital rebound for the Raptors, who had suffered two consecutive home losses earlier that week to Western Conference powerhouses, Oklahoma City and San Antonio.
Brandon Ingram contributed significantly to the Raptors' success, scoring 24 points. With this win, Toronto solidified its position in the Eastern Conference, now sitting in fifth place and establishing a three-game cushion from the play-in group. Their offensive display served as a crucial boost, especially coming off a less than favorable stretch.
On the other hand, the Wizards are struggling, having lost their fourth consecutive game. Despite brief success after the All-Star break with two wins over Indiana, the team was unable to maintain its momentum against Toronto. Key players Anthony Davis, who recently joined the roster, is sidelined due to a finger injury, while Trae Young is out because of knee and quadriceps issues. Additionally, seven-footer Alex Sarr missed the game due to a hamstring problem, and Collin Murray-Boyles did not participate for the Raptors due to a thumb injury.
The game saw its fair share of shifts in momentum. Washington held a three-point lead midway through the third quarter, but the Raptors launched an 11-2 run to take control, capped off by Ingram’s three-pointer. By the end of the third quarter, Toronto led 98-92 and further extended their advantage into double digits early in the fourth quarter.
All of Toronto's starting five players made significant contributions, with Canadian RJ Barrett chipping in 21 points, Scottie Barnes scoring 18 points, and Jakob Poeltl also contributing 18 points along with 10 rebounds. This collective effort by the starters was instrumental in securing the win.
For Washington, Bilal Coulibaly and Kyshawn George each scored 14 points, attempting to bolster the team's performance. While the Wizards excelled in bench scoring with a remarkable 64-26 advantage, their shooting from beyond the arc, hitting 16 of 34 attempts, was not enough to overcome the Raptors’ dominating play within the paint, where they shot an impressive 42 of 63.
Prior to the game, the Wizards signed former Maryland standout Julian Reese to a two-way contract, although he was not active for this matchup. As the season progresses, the challenges ahead for Washington only seem to increase, especially with several key players absent from the lineup.
UP NEXT
Looking ahead, the Raptors will next host the New York Knicks on Tuesday, aiming to build on their recent success and continue their offensive momentum.
