The injury troubles for the Toronto Blue Jays persist, as designated hitter George Springer was removed from Saturday's game against the Minnesota Twins due to a left big toe fracture, as confirmed by the team.

Springer sustained the injury in the third inning when he fouled a ball off his foot. Despite the pain, he managed to complete his at-bat but grounded out to third base. Following his second plate appearance of the game, Springer was pinch-hit for by Myles Straw.

Entering the game, the veteran outfielder was struggling at the plate, batting just .189 with two home runs and six RBIs this season. This injury further complicates the Blue Jays' lineup as they attempt to navigate through a challenging season.

At 36 years old, Springer recently experienced a resurgence in his performance, highlighted by a Silver Slugger award in 2025. He played a crucial role in the Blue Jays' run to the 2025 World Series, boasting impressive statistics such as a .309 batting average, 32 home runs, and 89 RBIs during the regular season, coupled with hitting the decisive homer in Game 7 of the ALCS against the Seattle Mariners.

Currently, Springer is in the final season of a substantial six-year, $150 million contract with the Blue Jays, raising concerns about his future with the team given his ongoing injury issues.

The situation is further exacerbated by the fact that the Blue Jays already have nine players on the injured list, including six pitchers. Key injured starters include Trey Yesavage (shoulder), Shane Bieber (elbow), and Jose Berrios (elbow), while position players such as outfielder Anthony Santander (left shoulder), catcher Alejandro Kirk (left thumb), and outfielder Addison Barger (left ankle) are also sidelined.

During the same game that saw Springer exit, the Minnesota Twins turned the momentum around in the third inning, scoring seven runs, including two home runs. Trevor Larnach hit a pivotal three-run homer off Blue Jays starter Eric Lauer, leading to the Twins' 7-4 come-from-behind victory, leveling the series at one game apiece.

Looking ahead, Blue Jays right-hander Max Scherzer (1-1, 3.38 earned run average) is set to start in the series finale against Twins right-hander Taj Bradley (2-0, 1.08 ERA) on Sunday afternoon, as Toronto continues to seek answers amidst mounting injuries.
