Police in Hamilton are currently on the hunt for two suspects following a tragic fatal shooting that took place at Jackson Square, a downtown mall, on the afternoon of Friday, October 27, 2023. The incident occurred just after 5 p.m. when authorities responded to reports of gunfire within the mall's premises.

Upon their arrival, officers discovered a 16-year-old boy who had sustained life-threatening gunshot wounds. Despite being rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment, the young victim was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. The circumstances leading to the shooting involved an altercation that took place inside a wireless mobile store within the mall, preceding the burst of gunfire.

Investigators have indicated that two suspects were seen fleeing the scene heading eastbound towards James Street immediately after the shooting. The suspects are described as white males, estimated to be around 19 to 20 years of age. One of the suspects was reportedly last seen wearing a grey track suit, while the other was clad in a blue track suit. Witness accounts suggest that both individuals were armed with firearms during the incident.

Superintendent Martin Schulenberg addressed the media following the incident, emphasizing the gravity of the shooting. "This is a brazen shooting that occurred inside a mall. We're obviously very concerned about this," he stated. "Although this was a targeted shooting, that doesn’t mean this does not pose a risk to the public. We continue to search for any information that might bring us closer to identifying these two individuals."
