Two individuals are currently in custody following a dramatic incident in Toronto’s west end involving a stolen pickup truck that resulted in at least three separate collisions. The event unfolded in North York at the intersection of Wendell and Wilson Avenues just after 1 p.m., when Toronto police officers were tracking a stolen vehicle and successfully surrounded the white pickup truck.
The occupants of the vehicle attempted to flee the scene but were apprehended swiftly by the police. Eyewitness Jay, who was present during the chaos, described the scene as “crazy.” He recounted hearing sirens and witnessing multiple police vehicles converge on the truck. “I see like four of them, and then they hit the truck, and then the guy tried to get out and run, and then they got him... he’s on the floor getting handcuffed,” he said.
According to reports from CityNews, the stolen pickup truck collided with a black SUV several kilometers away from the initial takedown, near Jane Street and Wilson Avenue. The driver of the SUV, identified as Bruno, detailed the incident, noting that he was about to make a left-hand turn when he was unexpectedly sideswiped by the speeding pickup. He described the truck as traveling “like a bullet” before the police arrived and initiated a pursuit.
Another witness, who chose to remain anonymous, was so shocked by the events that she called 911 and actively searched for the pickup. She recounted the surreal experience of watching the white truck swerve backwards and perform a 360-degree spin at an estimated speed of 70 to 80 kilometers per hour while screeching its tires. “I slam on my brakes to the absolute incredible view of this white pickup truck,” she narrated, emphasizing the shocking nature of the scene.
Investigators have not yet disclosed details regarding when or where the pickup was stolen, nor at what specific time law enforcement began tracking the vehicle. This incident is part of a wider trend in Toronto, where auto theft continues to be an escalating concern.
Despite a sharp decline in auto thefts recorded in 2025, statistics indicate that over 2,200 vehicles have been reported stolen in Toronto since January of this year, marking a year-over-year increase exceeding seven percent. The uptick in vehicle thefts highlights ongoing challenges for law enforcement and the community in combating this issue.
