Three male youths have been charged following a shooting incident that occurred in Scarborough, Toronto, last month, according to the Toronto Police Service. The incident took place on April 13, 2026, at approximately 9:41 p.m. in the vicinity of Lawrence Avenue East and Morningside Avenue. Police received reports of shots fired at a vehicle in this area.
Fortunately, there were no injuries reported as a result of the shooting. Investigators have determined that the three suspects, all aged 17, were present when the incident occurred. Allegations indicate that two of the teens pulled out firearms and fired in the direction of a motor vehicle, which raised significant concerns about public safety.
Officers from the Integrated Gun and Gang Task Force launched an investigation into the shooting, seeking to apprehend those responsible. The Centralized Shooting Response Team Five continued the inquiry and was able to identify the three accused individuals linked to the discharge of the firearms.
The investigation culminated in arrests on May 8, 2026, when the suspects were taken into custody during an unrelated investigation. This indicates a proactive approach by law enforcement in addressing gun-related activities in the community.
Among the arrested individuals, two teens hailing from Whitby and Oshawa are facing multiple charges, including reckless discharge of a firearm, possession of a firearm without a license, and possession of a loaded regulated firearm. These serious charges highlight the gravity of their actions during the shooting incident.
The third suspect, a teen from Toronto, faces additional charges, including occupying a motor vehicle with a firearm, breach of probation, and possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order. This suggests that the individual may have a prior history related to firearm offenses, making the situation even more concerning.
This case underscores ongoing issues of youth violence and gun-related crimes in communities like Scarborough, prompting further discussions about preventive measures and community safety initiatives. As authorities continue to investigate and monitor the situation, there is a growing call from residents for enhanced law enforcement and community support to deter such incidents in the future.
