OTTAWA - The Federal Agriculture Minister, Heath MacDonald, has announced the reappointment of Benoit Basillais as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Canadian Dairy Commission. This reappointment marks an extension of Basillais’ term for an additional three years, effective July 4, 2026.

Benoit Basillais first became the CEO of the Canadian Dairy Commission in 2022, succeeding Serge Riendeau in that role. Throughout his tenure, MacDonald emphasizes that Basillais has made significant contributions that have played a key role in maintaining a stable, coordinated, and responsive dairy industry across Canada.

Basillais’ journey with the Canadian Dairy Commission began in 2003 when he joined as an economist. Over the years, he has held multiple leadership positions within the organization, contributing to its mission of overseeing the country's dairy supply management system.

The Canadian Dairy Commission operates as a Crown corporation, which is a government-owned entity responsible for regulating and managing the production and pricing of dairy products in Canada. Its primary objective is to ensure that dairy farmers receive fair prices for their products while also meeting consumer demand.

MacDonald’s acknowledgment of Basillais’ reappointment reflects the importance of effective leadership within the dairy sector, especially given the industry’s complexities and challenges. Basillais’ experience and dedication are seen as vital for the continued success and responsiveness of the dairy industry in Canada.

This announcement highlights the government’s ongoing commitment to supporting the agricultural sector and ensuring that it remains robust and adaptable in the face of changing market conditions and consumer needs.
