TORONTO – TD Bank Group's Chief Operating Officer, Taylan Turan, has announced his departure from the bank after less than one year in the position. The Toronto-based lender has not disclosed the reasons behind Turan's exit, nor has it indicated who will take over the COO responsibilities following his departure.
Taylan Turan joined TD Bank on September 29, 2025, stepping into the COO role and reporting directly to CEO Raymond Chun. Prior to his tenure at TD, Turan held prominent roles in the banking industry, including serving as the Global CEO of Retail Banking at HSBC. His career also includes significant positions at Barclays and Citigroup, indicating a strong background in the financial sector that TD sought for its leadership team.
The announcement of Turan's departure comes alongside a series of senior leadership appointments effective September 4, 2026. Notably, Renu Gupta has been appointed as the Chief Strategy and Commercial Officer. This move reflects the ongoing restructuring and leadership changes within TD Bank Group.
These executive changes are part of a broader shakeup initiated by CEO Raymond Chun, who assumed the top position at TD Bank after the institution faced a substantial fine exceeding US$3 billion imposed by U.S. regulators in 2024. The fine was a consequence of the bank's failures in anti-money laundering protocols, prompting a shift in leadership to reaffirm the bank's commitment to compliance and operational integrity.
The recent changes in that executive structure indicate TD Bank's efforts to navigate the challenges it faces and bolster its management team. With Turan's exit and Gupta's new role, the organization seems to be focusing on strategic enhancements and aligning its leadership to better address the current regulatory and operational landscape.
As the bank moves forward, all eyes will be on how these adjustments will impact its performance and reputation in the highly competitive banking sector. Investors and stakeholders will be keen to see who will fill the COO position and how this leadership transition will influence TD Bank's future strategies and objectives.
