Toronto International Film Festival Welcomes Star-Studded Lineup
The 51st Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) is set to kick off, drawing an impressive array of celebrities. Among the attendees are acclaimed stars such as Penélope Cruz, Michelle Yeoh, and John Malkovich. TIFF recently unveiled its extensive list of around 800 expected guests, marking the anticipation leading into this year's edition of the festival.
Penélope Cruz will participate in the festival promoting her films “Bunker” and “La Bola Negra.” Additionally, she is scheduled to receive a Tribute Award at a TIFF fundraising event taking place on Sunday. Meanwhile, Michelle Yeoh is set to grace the festival with her presence as she stars in the film “The Surgeon.”
John Malkovich will also be among the notable figures at TIFF, featuring in Martin McDonagh's CIA black comedy “Wild Horse Nine.” He will be joined on the red carpet by his co-stars Sam Rockwell and Steve Buscemi, both of whom are also listed to attend.
The festival will also highlight Canadian talent, with appearances from actors such as Seth Rogen. Rogen will be promoting his wife Lauren Miller Rogen's film titled “Babies.” Additionally, Rush band members Alex Lifeson and Geddy Lee are expected to attend for the documentary “Neil Peart: No One's Disciple,” which pays tribute to the late drummer of the iconic rock band.
Other notable attendees include Sebastian Stan, who features in the film “Fjord,” and Cynthia Erivo, known for her role in “Prima Facie.” Jesse Eisenberg will be present as well; he directed “The Debut,” another film featured at the festival. Fan Bingbing is also making headlines for her involvement in “Diary of a Mad Old Man” while receiving a Tribute Award at the event.
Twin sisters Kate and Rooney Mara are expected to draw attention as they portray twins in Werner Herzog's film “Bucking Fastard.” Their presence is indicative of how TIFF continues to attract both emerging and established talent in the film industry.
However, the festival will be missing some star power, particularly Mark Ruffalo, who is featured in the opening night film “Being Heumann.” Ruffalo's absence from the guest list stems from a recent dispute with Paramount concerning its merger with Warner Bros., which he publicly criticized.
