TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) – Savannah Guthrie, the co-host of the “Today Show,” is urging her neighbors, friends, and the residents of Tucson, Arizona, to help reignite memories that may lead to new information regarding the disappearance of her mother, Nancy Guthrie. Savannah took to her Instagram account on Sunday morning to post a family statement, following a similar message shared by the show's official Instagram account.
In the statement, the family expressed their gratitude towards the community and emphasized their belief that someone in Tucson or the broader southern Arizona area may possess crucial information that could assist in resolving this distressing case. They asserted, “Someone knows something. It’s possible a member of this community has information that they do not even realize is significant.”
The Guthrie family is appealing to the public to reflect on their memories from the dates surrounding Nancy Guthrie's disappearance: January 31, when she was last seen, and February 1, as well as the evening of January 11. They requested individuals to review any relevant camera footage, journal entries, text messages, observations, or conversations that might inadvertently hold critical details. “No detail is too small,” the statement read.
The family acknowledged the gravity of the situation, admitting the possibility that their matriarch may no longer be alive. They stated, “We cannot grieve; we can only ache and wonder,” conveying their profound anguish during this challenging time.
Nancy Guthrie, 84, was officially reported missing on February 1. Authorities suspect that she may have been kidnapped, abducted, or taken against her will. In their efforts to locate her, the FBI has released surveillance footage that shows a masked man outside of Guthrie's front door on the night she disappeared. The investigation is ongoing, and the family is committed to uncovering the truth of her whereabouts.
To incentivize information leading to Nancy’s recovery, the Guthrie family has put forth a $1 million reward. This significant amount reflects their desperation and hope for any leads that could assist in finding her.
Since her mother’s disappearance, Savannah Guthrie visited the NBC “Today Show” studio in New York City for the first time on March 5. While she plans to return to the air eventually, the former law correspondent is currently focused on supporting her family and attempting to bring Nancy home. Her former colleague, Hoda Kotb, has stepped in to co-anchor “Today” during Savannah's absence.
Tucson, where Nancy Guthrie resides, is located just over 100 miles south of Phoenix and approximately 70 miles north of the Arizona-Mexico border. The neighborhood of Catalina Foothills, where the Guthrie family lives, is noted for its affluence and beautiful hiking trails, making it a popular area among locals and visitors alike.
The public’s engagement and support are seen as invaluable in this search for Nancy Guthrie. The family's hope remains firm that with the community’s help, new leads will emerge in this heartbreaking case. As they navigate this challenging time, they cling to the possibility that someone may possess the information needed to reunite them with their loved one.
