LOS ANGELES (AP) – A 38-year-old man named Jeanine John Taele was arrested on Sunday at President Donald Trump’s golf course in the Los Angeles area. His arrest occurred just two days prior to a major fundraiser scheduled at the venue. Taele's actions drew the attention of law enforcement as he appeared to be monitoring security preparations at the Trump National Golf Course, located in Rancho Palos Verdes, California.
According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Taele was found with a 16-round magazine containing ammunition in his pocket. Additionally, law enforcement discovered a loaded pistol inside his vehicle. Following his initial detainment, authorities conducted a search of his residence in Downey, situated nearby, where they uncovered an arsenal of firearms, multiple magazines, a substantial amount of ammunition, body armor, and notebooks that included "concerning statements."
The sheriff’s department revealed the arrest coincided with Trump’s attendance at a Republican National Committee dinner at the same golf course. Taele faces multiple felony charges, including second-degree robbery, possession of a large-capacity magazine, and possession of a short-barreled rifle or shotgun. He is also charged with carrying a concealed firearm in a vehicle, considered a misdemeanor offense.
During a court appearance on Monday, Taele pleaded not guilty to all charges filed against him. The court ordered him to maintain a distance from the golf course and prohibited him from possessing any weapons. His bail was set at $250,000, though it remains unclear if he has legal representation. Efforts to contact his family members for comments were unsuccessful.
At the time of his interaction with law enforcement, officials determined that Taele was under investigation by the El Segundo Police Department for an unrelated robbery. Despite the serious nature of the arrest and the collection of weapons found in his possession, the sheriff’s department emphasized that there is "no credible threat to our communities."
This incident sheds light on heightened security concerns surrounding the former president's events, especially following previous threats and violent acts against public figures. Notably, a jury found another individual guilty in 2025 for attempting to assassinate Trump at the president's country club in Florida.
