The Toronto Police are actively searching for two suspects connected to a distraction theft incident that occurred in Scarborough. This theft targeted an elderly individual, and the police have provided details to aid in the investigation.

The incident took place on April 15, around 2:20 p.m., at a bank located near Eglinton Avenue East and Pharmacy Avenue. According to the police, an unknown man and woman allegedly followed the elderly victim into the bank. This couple observed as the victim conducted a cash withdrawal, and they subsequently trailed him upon his exit from the establishment.

In an unusual tactic, the male suspect squirted ketchup on the victim's back before nonchalantly walking away. The female suspect then approached the elderly man, offering to assist him in cleaning the stain from his jacket. During this interaction, while the victim was distracted, the male and female suspects proceeded to steal the victim's money and quickly fled the scene.

The police have provided descriptions of the suspects to aid public recognition. The male suspect is described as having a heavy build and a short beard. At the time of the incident, he was wearing glasses, a black jacket, black pants, and light-colored shoes. In contrast, the female suspect is characterized as having a slim build with dark hair tied in a ponytail. She was last seen wearing a light-colored coat and a scarf, along with a dark knapsack and white shoes.

Surveillance footage from the bank capturing the interaction between the suspects and the victim has been released by investigators. Authorities believe that there may be additional victims who have not yet come forward, highlighting the potential for a broader pattern of distraction thefts targeting vulnerable individuals.

This incident serves as a cautionary reminder regarding the importance of vigilance, especially for elderly citizens who may be more susceptible to such deceptive tactics. As the investigation progresses, police urge anyone with information or who may have experienced similar thefts to come forward and assist in bringing these suspects to justice.
