The Toronto Police Service is actively searching for a suspect involved in an assault that included the use of anti-Black racial slurs against a victim earlier this year. The incident reportedly occurred on March 27 at approximately 11:45 a.m. near the intersection of Spadina Avenue and Dundas Street West.
According to police, the victim was aboard a streetcar when the assault took place. It is alleged that the suspect directed racial slurs at the victim during the incident. The nature of the attack has prompted law enforcement to categorize it as a hate-motivated offense, suggesting that the actions were driven by bias, prejudice, or hate.
The suspect is described as being around 30 years of age, standing between five feet ten inches and six feet tall. Witnesses noted that the individual has dark, shoulder-length curly hair. Following the assault, the suspect fled the scene, and to date, no further details have been disclosed regarding their whereabouts.
In light of the seriousness of the incident, the police officers from the hate crime unit are urging anyone with information pertaining to the incident or the identity of the accused to come forward. Public assistance is deemed crucial in addressing such hate-related crimes, as investigators seek to hold the responsible individual accountable.
