Hamilton police officers have reported that a 21-year-old man has succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital after being stabbed early Sunday morning. The incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. near Main Street West, close to Frid Street and Highway 403, where the victim was discovered on a sidewalk.
According to authorities, the victim was initially on a scooter before he fell to the ground. He was found by a taxi driver who, along with another bystander, attempted to administer first aid. The victim was subsequently transported to Hamilton General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after 3 a.m.
Acting Det.-Staff Sgt. Lisa Chambers addressed the media, stating that investigators believe the victim had been involved in an altercation outside a business located at Paradise Road North and King Street West. This location is less than a kilometer from where the victim was found. Chambers noted that while there are indications of an altercation, the specifics surrounding it are still unclear as they continue to gather evidence.
Few details regarding the incident have been confirmed, but investigators believe that the stabbing occurred in the vicinity where the victim was later discovered. As the investigation progresses, police are working to identify the man’s next of kin, who are located outside of Ontario, and have not publicly released his name. It has been reported that the victim was set to commence a new job on the following Monday, highlighting the tragic nature of his untimely death.
Investigators have also issued a call for information from the public, specifically requesting anyone who may have dash-camera or surveillance video recorded between 2:00 and 2:45 a.m. to come forward. As of the latest reports, police have not disclosed any information regarding potential suspects connected to this tragic event.
