Three suspects have been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run incident that resulted in injuries to a woman and four children in Mississauga during the summer of 2025. The incident occurred on July 3, specifically in the Erin Mills area, at the intersection of Ninth Line and Erin Centre Boulevard.
The Peel police were initially dispatched to the scene in response to a report of a carjacking at the Life Time Fitness location, located near Highway 403 and Winston Churchill Boulevard. Just moments before the crash occurred, authorities reported that a black Range Rover was being pursued by the driver of a red Ford Mustang. Witnesses claimed that both vehicles were driving erratically and at high speeds.
According to law enforcement officials, the black Range Rover subsequently crashed into a red Honda Civic. At the time of the incident, the Honda Civic was carrying a woman and four children, who ranged in age from 9 to 12 years old. All five individuals in the Civic sustained serious injuries and were transported to a trauma center for medical attention. It was later confirmed that two of the injured children were related to the woman, while the other two were friends of the family.
In a concerning turn of events, the two suspects traveling in the Range Rover fled the scene on foot without making any attempt to check on the wellbeing of those injured in the crash. This lack of concern prompted a thorough investigation by the police.
As the investigation progressed, authorities arrested 18-year-old Daijuan Buchanan from Brampton, as well as 22-year-old Jahzi Smith from Mississauga. Both individuals were identified as the alleged occupants of the black Range Rover involved in the collision. Buchanan faces multiple charges that include robbery, unauthorized possession of a firearm, five counts of dangerous operation causing bodily harm, failure to stop after an accident, and failure to comply with a release order.
Smith is also facing several charges, including robbery and unauthorized possession of a firearm. Following their arrests, both suspects were detained and held for a bail hearing, where the severity of their charges and circumstances would be evaluated.
In a related development, the driver of the red Ford Mustang has also been arrested. Identified as 28-year-old Jashanpreet Singh from Mississauga, he faces charges of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle. Unlike the other two suspects, Singh was released under conditions, with a requirement to attend court at a later date.
This incident highlights serious concerns regarding road safety and the responsibilities of drivers in the community.
