OTTAWA — Dominion Dynamics, a defense company based in Ottawa, has announced a strategic partnership with Ukrainian robotics firm Tencore to initiate the production of ground-based drone vehicles in Canada, with manufacturing expected to commence as early as next year. This development emerged from a memorandum of understanding signed today at a defense conference held in Washington, D.C.

The agreement focuses on the manufacturing of Tencore's Termit drone in Canada, which is a tracked vehicle resembling a miniature tank. The Termit drone has been actively deployed along Ukraine’s front lines, aiming to perform missions deemed hazardous for human personnel, including resupply operations and mine-laying activities. This collaboration signifies a strong commitment to enhance defense capabilities through advanced technology.

The Canadian federal government has been advocating for cooperative production efforts between Canadian enterprises and Ukraine’s robust defense sector, emphasizing the importance of localizing technology and increasing defense production capacity. In a significant meeting last month in Calgary, Prime Minister Mark Carney and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy formalized their commitment to this cooperative effort by signing a joint declaration on defense production.

In addition to its partnership with Tencore, Dominion Dynamics is concurrently developing its proprietary autonomous collaborative platform. This innovation involves drones that operate under human guidance while flying in tandem with advanced fighter jets, such as the F-35 and Gripen models. This dual initiative not only underscores Dominion's dedication to advancing drone technology but also aligns with broader defense strategies being adopted by Canada and its allies.

This initiative, which reinforces Canada’s role in the global defense landscape, is poised to enhance military operations and bolster the technological edge necessary for contemporary warfare. The collaboration with Ukraine, a nation currently navigating significant defense challenges, reflects a shared commitment to innovation and partnership in the face of evolving threats.

As the landscape for military technologies continues to evolve rapidly, the collaboration between Dominion Dynamics and Tencore could serve as a model for future partnerships aimed at enhancing defense readiness and operational effectiveness. The Canadian public and defense stakeholders will be keenly observing the progress of this partnership as it unfolds in the coming year.
