A boil water advisory continues to be in effect for certain areas in Collingwood, prompting some residents to stock up on bottled water and limit their usage. This advisory was put in place on Friday evening due to a water main break near the intersection of Pretty River Parkway and Hume Street.

Repairs to the water main were completed just before 3 a.m. on Saturday. Town officials indicated that water samples collected from the affected area have been sent to the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit for testing to ensure the water’s safety. However, results from these tests are not expected until after the weekend, and officials have cautioned that the advisory may remain in effect for approximately five days.

According to the officials, “The water samples must be tested for bacteria, which need time to grow so they can be detected. This process takes at least two days to ensure the results are accurate and reliable.” Originally, the advisory was issued for the entire town, but further investigation revealed that the impact is limited to specific areas.

Officials stated that the advisory affects only certain residences and businesses primarily located in the eastern and southern parts of Collingwood. This includes areas along Highway 26 East, neighborhoods east of the Pretty River, and properties situated between Poplar Side Road and Tracey Lane/Findlay Drive. All other regions of the town have been cleared from the advisory.

In response to the significant water loss caused by the main break, residents in the affected areas are urged to continue conserving water. Furthermore, restaurants, bars, and other food service establishments located within the advisory zone will remain closed for the duration of the advisory.

To assist residents who are unable to boil water, the town has set up two bottled water distribution stations. These facilities can be found at the Central Park Arena on Patterson Street and the Royal Canadian Legion on Ontario Street. Both distribution points will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. until further notice.

The ongoing situation emphasizes the importance of water safety and community cooperation in times of infrastructure challenges. Residents are encouraged to stay informed and adhere to the guidelines set forth by officials to ensure public health and safety.
