Driver Flees Crash, Disposes of $200K in Drugs

A driver in Mississauga has been charged with multiple offenses after allegedly fleeing the scene of a collision and attempting to dispose of a significant quantity of illegal drugs. The incident took place on January 9, 2023, at around 11 p.m., at the intersection of Hurontario Street and Elm Drive, where a crash involving a black Hyundai Elantra and a black Range Rover was reported to local authorities.

Upon arriving at the scene, officers from Peel police were informed by witnesses that the driver of the Range Rover had fled the scene on foot. In response, the Air Support Unit was deployed to track the suspect from the air, which led to them allegedly observing the individual discarding bags of property as he attempted to evade capture. Following a brief foot pursuit, the suspect was apprehended by law enforcement officials.

During the pursuit, the discarded bags were discovered to contain illegal substances, specifically drugs believed to be fentanyl, cocaine, and methamphetamine, with an estimated street value of $200,000. This significant amount of narcotics raised serious concerns regarding the potential impact on the local community.

Following the arrest, a search warrant was executed at the suspect's residence in Mississauga. Authorities seized additional quantities of methamphetamine as well as a sum of currency during their search. The police have noted that the drugs pose a considerable risk due to their potency and the ongoing opioid crisis affecting many areas, including Ontario.

The individual involved in this case has been identified as 23-year-old Nitin Malik. He is facing a range of charges that include failure to stop after an accident, failing to comply with a release order, and multiple counts of possession of controlled substances with the intent to distribute. The charges pertain to Schedule I drugs, which include cocaine and methamphetamines, as well as opioids like fentanyl.

This incident highlights ongoing issues regarding drug trafficking and road safety in the region. As authorities continue to address these challenges, the case against Malik will likely draw attention to both the dangers of impaired driving and the serious implications of drug possession and distribution in the community.
