A tragic incident occurred in Etobicoke involving a 28-year-old man who was severely injured after being struck by a vehicle. Toronto police reported that they received calls about the accident near the intersection of Dundas Street West and Acorn Avenue, close to Kipling Station at approximately 7:20 p.m.
Upon arrival at the scene, emergency services rushed the male pedestrian to the hospital due to life-threatening injuries. Unfortunately, despite the medical attention he received, he later succumbed to his injuries. This incident has raised concerns within the community regarding pedestrian safety and the conditions in which drivers are operating their vehicles.
The driver who was involved in the accident remained on the scene and is currently cooperating with the police investigators as they work to uncover the circumstances surrounding the event. Authorities have closed off Dundas Street between Acorn and Aukland Road to facilitate their investigation into the matter.
Insp. John Rose of the Toronto police urged drivers to take extra precautions and adhere to safe driving practices. He emphasized the importance of driving according to road conditions, especially in light of recent incidents involving pedestrians.
This unfortunate event marked the second pedestrian fatality reported on the same day. Earlier, another man was killed after being struck by a tractor-trailer, underscoring a growing concern for pedestrian safety in the area. These incidents have sparked discussions about road safety measures and the need for greater awareness among both drivers and pedestrians.
The community is mourning the loss of the young man, and calls for change are expected as citizens come together to advocate for improved safety measures for pedestrians. Public officials may need to address these recurring tragedies and consider implementing new policies to ensure the safety of all road users.
