The tragic case of Jay'siiah Webb-Long, a missing teenager from Ontario, has captured the attention of the community as his remains were discovered in a remote area of Saskatchewan last month. The 16-year-old was laid to rest in Brampton on Saturday, reflecting the profound grief experienced by his family and friends.
Jay'siiah was reported missing to Peel Regional Police in April 2025, but authorities believe he may have left Ontario as early as March of that same year. At the time of his disappearance, he was believed to be residing in Pelican Narrows, a small village located in the boreal forest of central Saskatchewan.
The situation took a serious turn in July 2025 when the Saskatchewan RCMP's Homicide Investigation Unit, which had previously operated under the Major Crimes Unit, initiated an investigation into his case. This action arose from the assessment that Jay'siiah’s disappearance was suspicious in nature, raising concerns among law enforcement and the community alike.
Nearly a year after he was last in contact with his family, Jay'siiah's remains were uncovered by officers during a planned search operation near Pelican Narrows. The specific cause of death has yet to be disclosed. However, police are treating the matter as a homicide and are continuing to pursue leads in their investigation.
In light of this devastating loss, a GoFundMe campaign has been established to assist Jay'siiah's family with costs associated with the funeral, travel, and other unforeseen expenses. As of June 13, 2026, the campaign had successfully raised more than $24,000, nearing its goal of $26,000, showcasing the outpouring of support from the community.
The journey of this young man's life has ended too soon, leaving behind a void that is felt deeply among those who knew him. Jay'siiah's story is not just one of tragedy but also a reminder of the collective responsibility to look out for one another and to seek justice for those who have been harmed.
