Toronto police have identified the victim of a violent homicide that occurred in North York early Sunday morning, where a series of brutal events led to the death of a 32-year-old man named Erik Safar. The incident is described by investigators as a "targeted" attack within the city's west end.

Authorities received a call shortly after 6 a.m. regarding an "unknown trouble" at a residential building located on Agate Road, near the intersection of Keele Street and Wilson Avenue. Responding officers found a chaotic scene following reports of a fight involving a group of individuals.

According to police, Safar was assaulted and subsequently struck by a vehicle whose driver fled the scene afterward. Preliminary accounts suggest that there was an altercation involving multiple suspects, during which Safar was reportedly beaten with a baseball bat before being run over several times.

Residents in the area provided eyewitness accounts, with one unidentified man describing how he was awakened by the sounds of revving engines and screams. He commented on the gruesome nature of the scene he encountered, stating that it appeared as if Safar had been severely injured. "He was lying on his stomach, and his body looked like it had been crushed," the witness said. Initially, he thought Safar might have fallen from a balcony.

Despite immediate life-saving measures undertaken by emergency responders, Safar was pronounced dead at the scene. Currently, there are no detailed suspect descriptions available, except for the fact that the perpetrators fled in a light-coloured vehicle.

Duty Insp. Scott Bradbury assured the public that the authorities believe the incident is localized and does not pose a broader risk to the community. He urged those responsible for the homicide to “find a lawyer and turn yourselves in.”

This tragic incident marks Toronto's 14th homicide of the year 2026, highlighting ongoing safety concerns within the city.
