LeBron James has made a significant decision regarding his NBA career, announcing his latest landing spot as the Philadelphia 76ers. The NBA’s all-time leading scorer, now entering his 24th season, has signed a two-year contract worth $8 million, as reported by ESPN's Shams Charania.
James took to social media to express his excitement about joining the 76ers, stating that he is eager to contend for another championship. “I believe I can help make the Philadelphia 76ers a championship team and I am so excited to energize a new fan base and start this incredible journey one last time,” he shared in his announcement.
Prior to joining the 76ers, the 41-year-old spent eight seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers, where he secured his fourth NBA title during the 2019-2020 season. His decision to leave came after informing the Lakers of his intent to move on following their playoff exit, where they were swept by the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference semifinals.
James had several teams interested in acquiring him, including the Miami Heat, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Golden State Warriors. Ultimately, he chose to join a revamped 76ers team, which is now coached by Nick Nurse, formerly of the Toronto Raptors. The 76ers further bolstered their roster this offseason with the acquisition of All-Star guard Jaylen Brown, alongside stars like Joel Embiid, V.J. Edgecombe, and Tyrese Maxey.
Last season, James had an impressive performance, averaging 20.9 points, 6.1 rebounds, 7.2 assists, and 1.2 steals across 60 regular-season games. His playoff statistics were even more notable, increasing to 23.2 points, 6.7 rebounds, 7.3 assists, and 1.3 steals during the 10 playoff games he played.
