Toronto police have arrested a suspect involved in a serious street racing incident that occurred two weeks ago near Port Union. The incident, which took place on July 17, has drawn significant public attention due to the reckless behavior displayed by the drivers involved. According to the police investigation, the incident began when a green Lamborghini and a white Mercedes E-Class were allegedly racing at high speeds along Highway 2A, near Meadowvale Road, around 9:30 a.m.
During the high-speed race, the white Mercedes lost control and struck a white Ford F-150 pickup truck. Following the impact, the Mercedes left the roadway and collided with a tree. The consequences of this reckless racing were severe. The 15-year-old female driver of the Mercedes, along with a 24-year-old male passenger, suffered critical injuries and were subsequently transported to the hospital in life-threatening condition. In addition to them, the driver of the Ford F-150, a 44-year-old man, and an 11-month-old boy who was in the pickup also incurred minor injuries.
Following the crash, the driver of the green Lamborghini fled the scene, prompting a detailed investigation by the Toronto police. Through their investigative efforts, authorities managed to locate the driver. The individual parked in connection with the incident is identified as 42-year-old Akil Gordon Heywood. Police have charged Heywood with multiple offenses, including two counts of dangerous operation of a conveyance causing bodily harm, failing to stop at the scene of an accident, and stunt driving.
