GO Transit riders utilizing the Lakeshore West train line will need to make alternative travel arrangements this December due to scheduled service suspensions across parts of the line. The transit agency has announced that service will be suspended for three consecutive weekends, specifically on December 6-7, 13-14, and 20-21, as part of important construction work involving the replacement of the Etobicoke Creek rail bridge located just west of the Long Branch station.
A notification distributed to GO Transit riders on Tuesday afternoon explained that these service suspensions are crucial for maintaining the safety and reliability of the transit service. While officials did not detail the specific nature of the construction work, they emphasized the necessity of the project, stating that a crane would be assembled near the creek to assist in the replacement of the aging, century-old bridge during the winter months.
GO Transit has shared the specifics of how service will be affected during each of the three weekends:
- December 6 and 7: No service will be available at the Appleby, Bronte, Port Credit, Long Branch, and Mimico stations. During this period, GO trains will operate on a special schedule between Exhibition and Union stations.
- December 6 and 7: Replacement buses for GO trains will stop at West Harbour, Aldershot, Burlington, Oakville, and Clarkson stations to accommodate affected passengers.
- December 6 and 7: Trains will remain operational between Aldershot and Niagara Falls stations; however, buses will transport riders from West Harbour and Aldershot stations to Bramalea station, where they can connect with Kitchener line trains.
- December 13 and 14: There will be no service at Appleby, Bronte, Port Credit, Long Branch, Mimico, or Exhibition stations, and there won’t be any GO trains running between Exhibition and Union stations during these dates.
- December 13 and 14: Similar to the previous weekend, replacement buses will stop at West Harbour, Aldershot, Burlington, Oakville, and Clarkson stations.
- December 13 and 14: Trains will continue to operate between Aldershot and Niagara Falls stations, with buses facilitating transport to Bramalea station from West Harbour and Aldershot stations for connections to Kitchener line trains.
- December 20 and 21: No service will be available at Port Credit, Long Branch, and Mimico stations, but GO trains will run between Exhibition and Union stations on a modified schedule.
- December 20 and 21: Trains will operate between Oakville and Niagara Falls stations, with buses taking riders from Oakville and Clarkson stations to Bramalea station for connections to the Kitchener line trains.
In preparation for these changes, GO Transit staff strongly encourage riders to utilize local transit options at each of the affected stations to ensure seamless connectivity to various services that operate to and from downtown Toronto.
